I picked up the sculptures confiscated by the Doubletree Hotel today. It seems people have returned to sanity a bit. They couldn't be nice enough...the Chief of Security and the second guy both came out to the loading dock, bellhops went back and forth bringing the sculptures from Security. We even joked a bit...when the Chief asked if I'd come to get the sculptures, I replied, No", that I'd had such a marvellous visit I wanted to see the place again.
They were even pressing tablecloths on me for covering the statues. Two of them were damamged and they took down all the information and were generally so polite I knew they wanted desperately to get rid of me...but on quite another note...I guess they weren't being "bought" by Jackie that day and could behave themselves.
I told them I wasn't prepared to remove the eight pedestals that day and they all but sang out, "no problem, come when you can". It was weird and funny and a little sad too for none of it was necessary...just a woman scorned.
Jackie owns about $60,000.00 worth of sculpture and felt secure in the knowledge that she'd bought the sculptor as well. I mean I am a free lancer and who would pass that kind of patron up?
I remembered today also that Jackie's husband, a most wonderful fellow, had been at the exit to the picnic when I went out to bring the car around, and how he hadn't tried to avoid me, as we had each other during the convention. He stood there in front as I approached, looking right at me...I returned his gaze and as I approached I said, "Hello"...he said, "How are you doing"..and it sounded specific not general. I replied I was fine...and he stuck out his hand and we shook on it.
If you knew the situation you'd understand that he was telling me something...and I only hope he has his jock strap on when Jackie reads this.
