: I finally got a chance to watch the debate with Ross. I am really proud of the way you defended the ancient Assyrians. Tony was right. You are not 'angry' at all. But more importantly for me was that when you were introduced, they mentioned you were born in Iraq. The reason this is significant is that I recall some Assyrians saying you had to postpone the forum because it was so close to Sept. 11th and that Assyrians would be afraid to come out in the open and let it be known that their roots are in the Middle East. Well, you did just that and the college president and moderator were still respectful. The lesson for me was that as I long as I did not have a complex about my origins, others would treat me well.
I believe the form was before 9/11, but was right after or near the bombing of the USS cole (?) in Kuwait.
I think that's why the situation was as delicate as it is... middle-eastern looking people were being harassed and killed (sikhs, coptic christians, and other non-arabs) around the US during that time. I hope the same doesn't happen in Canada.
I may be mistaken.
