xxx I think it's China - they've already got Africa as destabilized as they want it to be. However, China is a potential "threat" - their market is huge (4th largest US trading partner) & they're relatively politically stable (though it's not such a great set up for the people of China). It's *that* that gets at the people who run things here - China is another country that's under some sort of control, politically, & which, at the whim of the few who control it, can really screw w/ the world market... just like OPEC could. The US gov't wants a bunch of US-friendly nations around China, just in case the Chinese government ever tries to manipulate the world market. The US gov't would do the same to Russia if they perceived Russia to be an [economic] threat (like they perceived the USSR during the Cold War).
