Mel Gibson is an ultra conservative Catholic. The guy has his own chapel and priest in his house where all of mass is done in Latin.

He and I would definately get in a serious debate or two on the Second Vatican Council.

This line cracked me up in an article abotu the movie and Gibson's view on Catholic Church history: "He might also have noted that Catholicism flourished in those countries where it became a church of liberation where priests welded traditional doctrine to radical social reform."

Those traditional doctrines they were weilding...those were swords and threats of torture and death for heresy...

This is another line that made me giggle: To Gibson, Vatican II "corrupted the institution of the church. Look at the main
fruits: dwindling numbers and pedophilia."

The institution of the church was run by conservatives similar to Mel Gibson. The Church before Vatican II completely ignored the global issues and was VERY exclusive to European culture. Vatican II brought the Church into the world and challenged the Church to take responsibility for everyone living in it.

I'm so not a fan of conservative Catholicism. But I can't wait to see the flick!

Peace -
