How many of us or the people around us know more facts & figures about celebrities than we know about each other?
I was just checking my email, & one of those popup banners came up on my screen asking me what the name of Ozzy Osbourne's wife is. & I thought to myself, "Self, if you can answer this stupid ad correctly, it means you've had waaaaay too much media exposure recently for your own health." & I answered it correctly. Now, I like Black Sabbath a bit, & I like some of Osbourne's post-Sabbath stuff, esp. that song "Hellraiser" when I'm in a bad mood (just MY taste, so go ahead & mock me for it - I don't care). BUT, I don't care more about the man than his music, so why should I even care what he & his family are like, personally, or what their names are? That's why I never bothered to find these things out before. But, thanks to constant media chit-chat about the Osbourne's "reality" show, which even makes it into the news broadcasts of mainstream media, I now know more about his family & him than I know about the famine/HIV epidemic in southern Africa. & I care more about the situation & people in Africa than I care about stupid celebrities, even if I do think their music is OK. This is SICK! I'm being brainwashed with meaningless trivia about rich people I wouldn't care to know personally, & it's such a waste of my time & memory! Ack!
