Geneva (ICRC) – The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Jakob Kellenberger, is in London today for talks with the British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Jack Straw, and the Minister of State for the Armed Forces, Adam Ingram. The humanitarian situation in Iraq and the ICRC's current and future activities there will be high on the agenda.

In accordance with the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions, the ICRC has also been visiting Iraqi prisoners of war and civilian internees held by United States and United Kingdom forces in Iraq. The organization currently has some 80 expatriates and 400 local staff working out of several offices throughout the country.

During his meetings in London, Mr Kellenberger will be accompanied by Professor John McClure, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the British Red Cross Society.
