ASSYRIANS NEED TO BE EDUCATED ON ANCIENT HISTORY

There seems to be heaps of puzzlement amongst our people regarding the ancient history of the Assyrians. I don’t believe that we are spending enough time (or any at all) informing and educating the children on our glorious history, culture and civilization. When I was younger nobody ever taught me about the history of the Assyrians or how they came about to existence. I never knew of the Akkadians, the Sumerians, and neither Hammurabi nor Gilgamesh. How can Assyrian children be brought up today and not have some foundation or knowledge concerning their ancestral dominance that existed for over 3000 years.

We always seem to enjoy our New Years parades throughout the nation on April 1st, yet our children really don’t know what the significance of our celebration means. We do a great job for funding the New Years Eve events, yet we can’t find a way to fund and promote the knowledge of our great history to our younger generation. Heck, we find ways to promote our parties at conventions and holidays better then anything you can imagine.

Depressingly as it may seem, we need to find a program that stimulates the mind of our young ones, so that confusions are avoided in the future. Nobody seems to understand our history as it is. Some have grasped the concept of it, and possibly adopted assumptions of their own perception, which is fine but still causes controversies to arise.

I am challenging the Churches and Organizations to provide a program for all of the Assyrian, Chaldean, Suryanees, Maronite, and Syriac children that will require them to be educated on the Ancient History of the Assyrians. This way they will be proud of who they are and what they are. From a psychological stand point this will give them the confidence they need for the rest of their lives and they will be able to pass it on. This is a lengthy process and it will take some time and I will do the best that I can to jump start it.
