Protest the Media Monopoly at Clear Channel Radio Stations

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is poised to approve, on Monday, the most dramatic changes to media ownership regulations in decades. These changes will allow huge media conglomerates to own even more television, radio, and newspapers in the same city and endanger diversity in our papers and our airwaves.

Among the many corporate beneficiaries of the proposed deregulation, Clear Channel Communications stands to be one of the biggest winners and is a prime example for what is wrong with massive deregulation. Clear Channel has accelerated the homogenization of our airwaves, shut out independent artists, and is using their more than 1200 stations to promote a conservative political agenda.

*2) Today, Ralph Nader will appear on Crossfire to debate the FCC’s proposed media deregulation. Catch the debate at the beginning of the show at 4:30 pm EST, 1:30 pm PST!!

*3) Wednesday, June 4th is a National Call-in day against war profiteering. Call your representatives in Congress and demand transparency and openness in all contracts granted by the Department of Defense, USAID and other government agencies to U.S. corporations doing business in post-war Iraq. Tell your representatives to demand that all the contracts be publicly released.
