No nation...no empire has ever lasted. They aren't designed to. They're meant to make a few people wealthy and at that it only lasts for a time.
Until we don't see each other as members of one family...on one planet...with a stake in how well the other guy is doing in terms of the basics we all wish to have for our families...nothing will change...except to get bloodier and more destructive.
For a brief moment before World War I, there was some unity among workers from the soon to be enemy nations...people, just plain ordinary people, who knew they were being used...who had more in common with each other than with their own leaders...but chauvinism took hold...the press drummed up murderous patriotism and soon there were millions of carpenters and medical students and nurses and factory and farm hands dead or crippled...what did it matter who was German or French...what did it matter to their children or loved ones.
Madness...all madness. It would be one thing if the common people on each side benefitted..but they don't. They still lose their lives or their jobs, homes, health and families...but they go on just as they did ten thousand years ago...we are still cannibals.
