Of course, it is impossible to avoid some people at work, so if you have to interact with someone who may pose a problem for you, keep your conversations impersonal, polite, & short with that person. I.E. don't make unnecessary enemies & you DON'T have to be everyone's friend. You have every right to pick & choose the people you want to be closer with at work & the people you want to distance yourself from (in a professional & graceful manner, of course).
