The cleric who issued the fatwa is very wise. He doesn't want the U.S. to set up a sham democracy in Iraq. His message is that Iraqis should choose their own government & constitutional assembly. Ayatollah Sistani is for separation of religion & state. The fact that he is a Holy Man should make very little difference as to whether or not his opinion has merit. It's the content of his opinion that counts.
