Another reason the lyrics depress me is that I knew someone who committed suicide last September... a very handsome, brilliant, young (26 year old) gentleman with the kindest disposition toward everyone except himself.... Suicide is not a luxury, not something to desire, not something one should flippantly mention. But this is not related to anything you brought up.... I do not enjoy listening to something that makes me despair over the fact that there is nothing I can do for a person who is talking about suicide.

To be honest, judging from incredibly honest conversations with many people after my friend's death, I think everyone contemplates suicide in his/her life, but it is not an idea that should ever be acted upon... just as one doesn't act on other thoughts that incline one to commit crimes. Perhaps it is reassuring for people to know that they are not "abnormal" for having certain thoughts, that the deepest sadness & despair are shared by much of humanity, just as are the most joyful feelings.

I'm not a psychologist. This is just what I have learned from my interactions with people from many different walks of life.
