I spent most of my life running away from being an artist. Couldnīt stand what passed for Art and artists...it was so degraded and low...such an obvious Con foisted on us by sharp salespeople posing in galleries.
I tried everything else I could think of...pre-med...pre-law...sociology...work with jubilent delinquents...hopping freights...factory work, until I ran out of options...and decided to go to New York and live or die a sculptor...and I came close too.
I pride myself of knowing nothing about the Art Scene...never heard of any of them...know no "Movements"...no "Schools". I spent all of one day in art school and ran screaming in the night all the way to the Metropolitan Museum, where I copied the Masters and basked in their magnificence...AND THEIR SKILL! There...I said it...I expect SKILL from anyone saying he or she...or it, is an artist. Gimme a break with the "Cutting Edge" shit...itīs been dull for decades.
Iīm going to be broke the rest of my life...Iīve accepted it...so I donīt have to play any more.
