I was flipping through the channels last night and I saw that very interview.
What stuck me, more than the martyrs (or, I should say, "non-martyrs") comment was the fact that his father was so supportive of this interest that he had. His father spent money, and his parents encouraged him to experiment with film.
I know of many talented Chaldeans, Assyrians, Yoyos and what have you that have excellent writing, artistic, and otherwise unique skills but these people are actively discouraged because their parents are ignorant and want them to be "lawyers", "doctors", or they want them to "work at the store".
How many Assyrian filmmakers do YOU know?
