: Another thing I was thinking the other day - what if all the 1st pioneers, settlers, etc. what if they were all sent here primarily to clear the land, make it habitable, for the rich? That's the easiest political strategy in the world - glorify a bunch of under educated, poor people, many of whom were jailbirds, who are used to struggling for survival - & ship them over here with the annoying religious fanatics to either survive or die off. & if they live - even better! Manipulate them into thinking that they were great people for doing this - dying & struggling for their queens & kings.

The British royalty weren't counting on masses who'd do that well, who'd see right through them, & who'd get so pissed off & use their arms & guerrilla warfare tactics so well. & the 1st thing the constitutional assembly did was quiet those religious fanatics & loose their bonds from the Anglican church (headed by the King of England) by declaring their government free from religion yet allowing citizens to feel free to practice whatever religion they wanted.
