"Be Not Content"...a book by biker and college English major William S Craddock, published around 1969, while he was a student at San Jose State College told about his life as a member of the Gypsy Jokers motorcycle gang at the same time he was in advanced studies in Lit.
He and his buddies took a lot of everything...a lot of dope mostly...marijuanna. He said that at one time his gang members realized that dope was making them too mellow. They'd gather round Santa Cruz at night, on the beach...a bonfire, lots of joints passed around...and women.
Then it would be time to go find the other biker gang and have it out...fight. Trouble was the marijuanna made them all too passive...no one felt like fighting...just watching the waves break on the beach etc. This was un American so they took to drinking cheap red wine to get their juices pumping...then they went out and did what they were supposed to do...everyone has a part to play...without the rebel...the decent people would go mad.
