: : I'm begging to wonder if there cartoons in Germany in 1937? Did they point out the patent absurdities of Nazism? Someone must have been laughing...I mean when you hear tell of how many "good" Germans there were...surely some of them made jokes and drew cartoons about Herr Hitler?
: xxx A Jewish friend of mine here (not the lesbian philosophy prof) read a few jokes to me once from a book, written by a Jew, dedicated to jokes about being Jewish told by Jews during the Holocaust. He was laughing at them, but I couldn't laugh.
++++Not during the Holocaust...but before. There is a sound tradition for gallows humor. I wonder though if people treat the warning signs, many of them absurd and fantastic, in a light hearted manner...like we are now with skits about being terrorized and the loss of civil liberties.
