if you're really worried about getting unwanted things in the mail from your female admirer/stalker, Jackie, in CA, you could also make sure your address (&/or number)isn't listed not only in the local directory, but also your school directory... that way, no one can look you up, & only the people who matter will know where you live & your #.
My sister & I are leaving the most ambiguous message on our answering machine (as a joke). It goes something like this:
Hi! You've reached... me or us... Feel free to leave... me or us... a message, &... I or we... might get back to you... (beep).
