Yes, we are all experts on what could or should have happened when we are armed with 'retrospectoscopes'... everything always makes sense after the event, things always begin to fall into place and make sense - to any number of conspiracy theorists. And that's the problem... there are too many possiblities, too many theories: they can all make sense if you want them to.
Face it, sometimes the omnipotent West just simply fucks up. [They probably want you all to keep on thinking it's a conspiracy too- makes them look mysteriously more powerful. That's better than them saying 'sorry we stuffed up, again.']
There are always plots against the USA, or any super-power. The government could act on all possible threats and turn the country into a police state. [It already is! cry the civil libertarians. Yeah, right. Go to the Mid East.] Or it can act more selectively - but when one of the nutcases gets through, it looks like 'yep, there goes the government again, turning a blind eye.'
No, I'm not a big fan of conspiracy theories.
I like to keep life simple.
