As I sat at the convention listening to these great poets (after LONG introductions, YES), I must say that I had the fortunate circumstance of sitting next to one Stella Alkass who, not only translated on the spot what the poets were saying, but did so quietly enough so as to not to interrupt the show.

Later on Saturday night we were up until 2 or 3 with the poets near the Bazaar with 10 or 20 people. A 3rd generation Assyrain from Ukraine was telling us that he had all but lost the use of our language, only knew a few words and phrases. Ninos Aho asked him what he knew and he started: "zooze", "shimma d'alaha", and as soon as he said that second phrase, Ninos cut him off and said "Shimmi d'alaha ASHUR!!"

Both poets seemed to have a presence that the speakers before and after them definitely lacked, and I think I remember reading that one or both of them studied with William Daniel in the past.

** Nahrain, was Fred as ugly as I told you he would be?

(Just kidding)
