Genetically our Christian Assyrians and Muslim Assyrians are both the descendants of the ancient Assyrians.
Culturally the majority of the Christian Assyrians first adopted Christianity and it's Jewish culture and then Islam and its Arab culture.
Upon discovering Nationalism at the end of the 19th century. The Christians of Iraq adopted the nationalistic identity of Assyrian/Chaldean.
Upon establishing Iraq in the 30s the Muslim Assyrian majority who remeber at the time spoke Arabic and were of the Islamic religion adopted an Arab identity.
Meanwhile today the minority Christian Assyrians have adopted Western culture and identity.
Therefore culture, language and identity aside, in terms of GENETICS and ACTIONS the Muslim Iraqis are more Assyrian than most Christian Assyrian as they are living in and defending our modern homeland, ancient culture etc.
