They first tried it out but then ran into problems of conservation of the dead body tissues.
+++ This was followed by a short intermittant period in which those tissues were regularly exchanged/replaced with new, fresh ones in 1 week intervals (so called Assyrian "Scalpture period") stemming from the booty from military raids especially to this end.
