America is increasingly an idea...an idealized place. Most immigrants come here with visions of abundance and freedom just this side of a fairy tale.
You can find successful people in most countries who will sing those countries' praises...it's when you get here and don't make it to the upper reaches that the reality hits...and that reality is starkest in America where you and your children will be bombarded with images of the good life that could have been yours...if only you'd have proven worthy of it...after all...wasn't it there lying all around you just waiting to be scooped up?
America's strengths are increasingly being sacrificed to service its glaring flaws...for the short haul, short fall gain. Stands to reason that if your legacy was particularly rich...you could be more wasteful and take your time about squandering it.
