Christian Assyrians aren't Christian Fundamentalists...but they are "fundamentally" Christian. They aren't Christian Extremists but they are "extremely" Christian...in so far as they are primarily and then only interested in defining and expressing themselves in religious terms. They are in no way as interested in being Assyrian AS Assyrians...Assyrians who even 3000 years ago did considerably more than only chant and pray. They've been reduced to eunuchs and choir boys and girls and altar boys until they've become completely satisfied that going down on Jesus, a slightly unorthodox Jew, is not only the same as, or close to, being an Assyrian anyway...but even BETTER.

They won't accept the simple observation that the name of your god is in the name you define your religion by as in CHRISTians say out front whom they believe in and follow as ASHURians did once. To be YEHUAdians or Judeans or Yahwists also proclaims whom you follow...except back then religion was also ethnicity and nationality and culture. You can be French, German, Irish, Italian and Filipino Christian, but those are very distinct cultural groups. You can say Christianity is the "universal" religion plain old Judaism never became...you can say it cuts across people and States...or you can say it cuts up people and tears through States. But to be Christian and merely Christian and then ONLY Christian means you could find yourself adrift with nothing more than holy water to hang onto...that and National Piss Water...all of it fine for getting into heaven, should you want to go...but not much with which to build anything on earth.

And sure as anything you can see that this Christianity has made of us poster children for martyrdom and just plain abuse caught between warring religious factions. Had we been able to identify fully with the countries we lived in we might have felt more welcome...but we ran after the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Pope and anyone else who promised us what...MORE Christianity? NO...we ran after them because they were clever enough to promise us a COUNTRY from which and in which we could be finally and gloriously CHRISTIAN. Instead we got chased out of our lands and into theirs where we're allowed to be marginal Christians and nothing else....because we don't WANT to be anything else...not after suffering so much "for" Jesus...not for Ashur but for and I would say "because" of Jesus. Serves us right too...Christ wasn't an Assyrian.

No, no. We gave up everything of Ashur and Ashurism long ago. At least Muslim Assyrians tried to protect the lands and treasures and people of Ashur. We think we're clever in finding a way to claim lands that belonged to people who DIDN'T forswear Ashur...but you can see how unimpressed everyone is by that ploy. Assyrian pride and 'action" has come to mean only two things...1. Following Jesus and 2. Hating Muslims. That's our yin and yang...those are the two poles we revolve around and again as before...there isn't anything remotely Assyrian about either.

ZOWAA and the Assyrian Aid Society and the rest of them are merely Christian front organizations...that's all...and in the end they will have done the same kind of harm these religiously based "political" and "charity" organizations have always done. Let's just say that their counterparts in the West, Muslim aid societies and Islamic political groups are seen for what they are and are either suppressed or banned outright...and that's after only one attack by "Muslims" against America. This is another in a long line of ill-conceived notions whose main purpose is to fluff up egos and salve consciences, where you can find them, among ourselves. The countries we pledge allegence to and support and pray to and live in have done far far more harm to those we claim to be helping than anything we will ever manage to do for one small fraction of those who've been made to suffer.

Right now everyone's fat head is filled with enough whipping cream to sink a battleship at the thought that when they eat haute cuisine they're in some way making up for all the death and destruction they've helped wreak over there...makes them feel good or better about themselves. Which of them is willing to listen and think about what they're really achieving? There were lots os sensible Assyrians in Iraq no one would listen to when the Brits waved cash and guns and bright new uniforms in front of them. These loons of today are cut from the same cloth.

And Narsai, who only got involved in things Assyrian because of the Ashurbanipal project...who'd sworn off years before when the multiple idiocies of Christian Assyrians sent him screaming in the night...has fallen prey to the same thing...and that hurts. He, of all people, should know better. I know he weeps and feels great despair for what happens to our people over there as he was concerned about our drifting away over here...but I guess the natural fit of a "Cook-Off" for Assyria was just too great in the end. He has a chance to do what he does best...cook...and to do it "for Assyria" and it was just too much of an easy thing to pass up.

His skill and expertise could have been put to far better use in breathing some life into an Assyrian heritage here in the West...where the bombers are built that kill our people and starve them over there....where he sends a mere pittance to...about as much as one bomb is worth. It would have been better to educate the vast horde over here as to what they are destroying over there...and to inspire our aimless young people who already live in and around the halls of power. Instead we're doing what his uncle did in the 20's when he sent a dollar here and a dollar there back to the old country...and it did indeed save people's lives. But this isn't then...this is worse and a few dollars or even a few million not only does very little...but it increases the tensions and the hostility between Christian and Muslim which is being used to fan the flames consuming everything over there. We're pouring gasoline on the flames and helping to flambe people and people aren't bananas...they aren't a desert concoction. Those children weren't bon bons.

Christian Assyrians will reap the whirlwind again as they so richly deserve. They may not like what they've been getting...but no one can say they didn't work hard to earn it. I take it back...I won't be giving any more sculpture to Assyrian Aid...because it isn't. It's Christian Aid and Christians have been doing the kiling over there...as they've been doing for the last century and more. I'll give anything to any Iraqi organization that works for Iraq...for all the people of Iraq. I sure as hell won't give anything to an American puppet regime...not Saddam's and not the one they replace his with...or to support the "miskeena" family of that Christian collaborator who got shot...Finally, ultimately and, if we're ever even going to begin to heal that glorious land...it has to be all or nothing...everyone or no one. I'll help heal them all...but I won't be a party to any effort to pick them off one by one or pit one side against another...not another day.

Narsai...make it "Iraqi Aid" and we'll talk.
