After four years in an onsite crate, Ashurbanipal can be seen again.
That's City Hall there behind him and all around are magnificent
buildings and parks as well as the new main library facing him across
the street...most fitting. The building at his back which used to be
the library is now the Asian Art Museum. That's what caused
Ashurbanipal to go into hiding...a four year massive retro-fit of the
new home of the greatest collection of Asian art anywhere in America
or Europe. This should bring even more tourists to the site...and
look who's there to greet them. I would have done a president of Guam
if I'd thought about really benefitting Assyrians.

The Shumirum Monument could have been in an equally grand location for
the last six years. Ironically it would have been installed within
two blocks of the also expanded and rejuvenated Oriental Institute on
the campus of the University of Chicago. But it was not to be. John
Nimrod, who gave not a dime to the project, stopped it cold when he
threatened to sue the city if they installed OUR monument. It seems
you have to kow tow to these people...something I'm not about to do.
We are cultural savages...if I let a Nimrod or a Bejan decide the
ultimate fate of works of art...then what are we? And if they don't
get their way they stop the entire project...as he did in Chicago and
as Jackie did in San Jose...though Jackie's gripe was far more
personal...genitally so.

I'm not about to give in to business-as-usual...not when I see where
it's brought us...and unlike Alex or Andreas and Sadie...who feel we
neet some educating and distraction from being too concerned about
ourselves...I say we've neglected our real selves for far too long.
That's why I couldn't agree to what these chumps wanted to put this
monument to use for.

Both Nimrod and Bejan and then Atour Golani...not Janey but her
husband...who is the Assyrian of the couple...ruined the Hammurabi
before it could even make it to bronze. I'm in the funny position of
insisting the Shumirum be destroyed while a White Man and a Christian
at that is trying desperately to find some other solution.

Nimrods and Bejans get their power from our indifference...because
we're too busy finding out about Guam and expanding our horizons...so
that while Guam and the rest have horizons for us to
contemplate...we're floating on an ooze with nothing to ground us
anywhere.

Who or what is an Alex to lecture us?
