For over a year I've been re-reading Gordon and Rendsburg's "The Bible And The Ancient Near East". It amazes me, as I think back at how uncritically I accepted all of their absurdities, at how easy it is to influence people in subtle ways by presenting even the most ridiculous statements as facts...clothed in the mantle of Literature and History and Scholarship, complete with Publishers, dates and watermarks. Nowhere are we ever taught to look past this extraneous bullshit and get to the heart of the matter...how could it be otherwise? How else could a Bush get elected president and make murderers of us all?

Of all the nonsense I've culled from this book the following paragraph strikes me as the very essence of how you make history...any way you want it...so long as you control the printing presses. In chapter five, titled, "The Amarna Age", the following is presented...

"The Amarna Age(in many ways the high water mark of Egyptian culture, named after the main city of Amenhotep IV otherwise known as the sublime heretic, Ikhnaton or Akhenaton) is the focal period of the ancient Near East, when extensive and unprecedented international contacts produced a fusion of cultures from Babylonia in the east to Egypt in the west, and from Anatolia and the Aegean in the north to the Arabian border and the Upper Nile in the south. Into the Amarna Age flowed the cultural resources of the Babylonians, Assyrians, Hittites, Hurrians, Caphthorians (Crete), Caananites, Egyptians, and numerous other ethnic elements of pre-Amarna antiquity. Out of their synthesis emerged, first and foremost, the historical Greeks and Hebrews: two primary fountainheads of Western civilization; and also the post-Amarna Phoenicians, Arameans, Neo-Assyrians, Neo-Babylonians, Late Egyptians, and many others. THE HUB OF THE AMARNA AGE WAS CANAAN, SO THAT THE HEBREWS APPEARED AT THE RIGHT TIME AND IN THE BEST PLACE TO FALL HEIR TO THE MAXIMUM CULTURAL LEGACY OF THE ANCIENT NEAR NEAR EAST (caps mine).

That last sentence deserves a book in itself. What leads up to it is merely the pretext for drawing such an outrageous conclusion.

..."THE HUB OF THE AMARNA AGE WAS CANAAN". Now that's odd. Ordinarily by "hub" one means the central point from which all esle radiates. Canaan??? Name a single city in "Canaan"...go on try. Name a museum that has "Canaanite" artifacts. Name a book written by Canaanites, any inventions Canaanites left us. In the very age when all those other magnificent cultures were building the essentail mechanisms and thought patterns of civilization...while the Hebrews were killing their own children and ripping out the bellies of each others wives and being trounced and pummelled periodically in hopes of improving their sorry state...the Hebrews were at the CENTER!?

...THE HEBREWS APPEARED AT THE RIGHT TIME AND IN THE BEST PLACE". In the first place they didn't "appear"...they ran there and stumbled onto it to get away from slavery and the dessert. And at that they never "conquered" anything but got those hillsides no one else wanted. As far as the "Best Place"...I mean really! Even today...after millions of years and billions and billions of everyone else's dollars that country is as sorry a mess as it ever was. This is merely more of what the Hebrews were really good at...eating shit and convincing the rest of us it was caviar...they always knew better.

..."TO FALL HEIR TO THE MAXIMUM CULTURAL LEGACY OF THE ANCIENT NEAR EAST". How did that sentence escape and make it into print? How do you measure cultral legacy? Shouldn't it leave behind a shred or two? Spend your life digging and blasting in Israel and you might find the remains of a toilet. These people were the heirs of the Babylonians, Assyrians AND Egyptians? They were co-equal to the Greeks? Really? And just what have they got to show for all of this mastery? The only thing they have is that conglomeration of beastliness they have the nerve to call a holy book...the word of the ONLY god no less. And even at that they stole and modified and ruined the legends and stories of all those other people who could outshine any Hebrew achievements in their sleep.

It took ALL those People and ALL those cultures and ALL that history to produce the bible? Just what else do they claim to have accomplished? have you really read that mish mash of horrors and recipes for killing...and more killing and yet more killing of men, women, animals and children...of incest and fornicationsand human sacrifice and rape and all manner of idiocy and does this book then try to pawn these people off as the heirs of all the glory and greatness that surrounded the Hebrews from which they gained not a morsel of good common sense even?

Wullah it's better to write history than make it. And what a sorry spectacle we make, running after these Jews and their carpenter gods and out of work fishermen.
