let`s say over the past fifty years Assyrians had built a culture...had supported Assyrian artists, dancers, students...let`s say they`d poured resources into building a presence in America and Europe...a current history that also took into account that terrible things have happened to all people but that the mature person and the mature group, puts the negative things behind them and gets on with the buisness of improving their lot, especially, learning from past mistakes.

Let`s say we had tried to set up an exchange program with Iraq in which teens from outside the country travelled to spend time there and work with communities especiallly reaching out to heal the rift between Christian Iraqis and our Muslims family...and we sponsored people to spend time in America and Europe as guests in Christian and Muslim homes...that we aimed our best efforts at changing the patterns that have led to so much hatred and destructive violence between what are essentially the same people...what would have been the end result?

Whatever it could have beem would have been far better than what we`ve gotten by NEVER forgeting Simele...for we didn`t learn anything..we didn`t advance anywhere by REMEMBERING Simele..instead we remained locked in the same pattern, with the same prejudices as those lists represent and have managed only to repeat Simele..we continually picked at our sores like any child that has to be reminded to let the scab heal into new skin but prefers to nervously piick and pick.

Nothing of any good comes from remianing childlike as you grow. Boys of 30 and 55 are an unpleasant sight and they can do real damage. All these "nationalists" and experts have aimed at was to keep wounds and hurt memories raw and alive and bleeding..they resisted mightily any attempts to get past such things but kept revisiting and inflaming the passions. There has NEVER been satisfactory revenge. It always led to reprisals and a whole new set of things to never forget.

I doubt anything will be learned this time around either..they`re off and running again...before the first retaliation they can add to that list..though they asiduously ignore all the Christians killed by American and British soldiers and meddling and greed.

They`re arguing Christianity and purity and pagan symbols and death to anyone who is "wrong" all over again...they`re setting themselves up again for years of complaints at mistreatment and what is owed to them. They will still block and ban any attempts to get over this spot in what has become a permanent sate of srrested development they happen to prefer to maturity.

The boys will be boys for their lifteimes I`m afraid.
