What's scary about the boys is that they don't seem to be affected by anything that happens to them after they leave their villages. As if the ideas they carry away with them are fully formed and set and absolutely impervious to any other experience or modification from then on. Nothing phases them, nothing penetrates...they learn nothing new, they question nothing. Ideas, politics, art, history...all of it is like holy scripture, not to be questioned but taken verbatim and held onto for dear life. They appear to have been traumatized rather than educated...with such a narrow perspective on life that they don't so much live their lives as endure them as trials.

Their fervor about being Assyrian has nothing to do with anything Assyrian. The arguments they rattle off about Judaism being almost the same as Ashurism anyway, that they never broke faith with their roots and especially that through Christianity Assyrians have been "saved" all seem suspciously crafted by the church seeking to protect its funding base to allay exactly those doubts a healthy mind would conceive and explore, not react with horror and violence towards as some sacrilege aimed at the heart of the church...again the church. And I'm beginning to think when they use the word "saved" they don't mean as in saved from drowning...but rather SAVED the way evangelicals and born agains mean it...SAVED THROUGH JESUS....saved from hellfire and damnation for having been Assyrian and all the Jews told them our ancestors were.

I swear the boys don't LIKE being Assyrian...they are ashamed of their ancestors for all their talk of how "great" they were. I think they really mean great criminals and great savages and great brutes...great at war and great at destruction and great big SINNERS before the Lord. I can't think of a single positive atribute of any kind they display...they enjoy being sneaky and think they're clever when you don't know their identity, like they got away with something...pulled a fast one... which raises the question, "do they???"...do THEY know their identity and do they even have one? The tremendous lack of moral or physical courage they display seems to be something they revel in, something that "works" for them and not much else seems to be in their control as easily and thoroughly as this cowardice...they are actually pleased with themselves when they rush inside, lock the door then hurl taunts at what they ran from. All that's left is for them to stick their thumbs in their ears, wiggle waggle their fingers and shout, "NYAH NYAH NYAH can't get me"! And they feel GOOD about it.

And the ones who aren't religous are even worse for they've come to where they are all on their own without the help of a lying priest and church. These boys, like Peter and Aprim, want so much to place the blame for their own failures at the foot of someone else. In choosing Muslims and all of Islam and all Kurds and all Iranians and all Turks and all Arabs as the culprits...as if it took ALL those nations and people and several centuries too to rob the incredible store of talent and ability locked up in each of them, they carry around such an enormous chip on their shoulders as you wouldn't think they'd be able to stand upright and you'd be correct...they don't...they litteraly creep and crawl.

All of this...all of this mis-education and intellectual slovenliness and moral cowardice gets tumbled together into "political parties" who have "agendas" and expect to be heard by international bodies and actually and in all seriousness pick THIS TIME of all times...not to ask but to DEMAND that their "rights"...by which they mean their inadequacies, be guaranteed and protected and "enough of these unprovoked and unwarranted attacks againt Christians"...when it's been fucking Christians who've been attacking those lands for centuries and just finished off another murderous Crusade...must make any sane person step back in awe at such unfathomable stupidity.

How can you explain being THIS ill equipped except to say a church did it, or it's proof positive that the best part of them was ripped out very early on...which is EXACTLY what you'd expect to be the result if people are violently severed from their roots and then turn around and worship those who did it to them... "rotting" their way through life from then on instead of actually living it.
