>You ask, “why is evil any more or less wrong than wrong?” The answer is simple. It is so simple that even an atheist, if he is honest, should be able to at least understand it philosophically. Though it has been used interchangeably as a secular and a spiritual term, the distinction between the two should be obvious. Even nominal Christians understand that evil connotes rebellion by a creature against his Creator.

...then nominal Christians are as stupid as the rest...for there are a zillion versions of creators and who they created and how...almost all laws since Hammurabi`s day condemn the same damn things as illegal...doesn`t matter who the god is or if there is no god. You`re right...it is simple...so simple you missed it. You got those BIG THINGS on your mind.

That is not the same as doing something wrong, like soiling your underwear, or spitting on the sidewalk, or belching during a solemn occasion, or even breaking a civil ordinance, like crossing a street against a light.

...of course it isn`t...that`s why no sane society that wishes to remain that way needs a god...believe what you want or don`t want...just obey the law and we`ll all get on fine and if you don`t, off to jail you go...there is no dispensation in any civil law for cannibalism...there is in Christianity...where`s the confusion?

Evil is a disposition that one chooses, to set himself against the will of His Creator. Those who make that choice cannot claim ignorance. They have full knowledge of their intent and the quality of their actions. By contrast, all of us are guilty, from time to time, of wrong behavior or actions. They are often committed on impulse or due to immaturity, misguided ideas or to get attention or recognition.

...so`s a belief in gods...you`re wandering again. Stick to the point...a society that believes in Evil will see it lurking everywhere...see it and act against it when not everyone in that society sees or thinks the same way about gods and creators or religious notions of what Evil OR Good is...but ALL citizens in a country or city recognize a broken law when they see one and since they ALL made the laws or agree to live by them...there`s little to argue about...so long as everyone is treated fairly and there aren`t any safehouses for buggering priests to go hide in.

> Civil trials often describe an unusually heinous crime as evil. Why; simply because of the degree of wrongness? I don’t think so. I think even the secular humanists acknowledge that the origin of some crimes surpass the range of human potential. You may not acknowledge it and that wouldn’t surprise me, but I do think you should admit that colloquially, at least, evil is different than wrong.

...no crime surpasses god`s capacity or rap sheet...none. He is the most Evil thing ever invented...not even Hitler or Bush killed as many innocent people...read your friggin bible...ALL of it and stop cherry-picking.

...Evil was invented as a way to allow Good people to behave in Evililer ways and get away with it. A punishment is supposed to fit the crime...not so when you punish Evil and as to your assertion about the word Evil entering secular society...your Christianity has corrupted everything decent it ever touched...and we`re still struggling with the nightmares you gave us during the Dark Ages when god held sway in Europe for 1000 years and there was no end to the amount of Evil the Church saw and no end to the people they killed in their attempt to stamp out Evil...just as the Patriot Act which denies basic civil rights that made this country great, if it ever was, was put in place because there was EVIL in the world all of a sudden and anything and everything was now "legal" in its pursuit...same as the Nazis did...stop "agonizing" so much and read another book.
