Went to a mosque today with a good friend and colleague named Abdullah who is half British and half Pakistani. We drove around the centre of Canberra past all the scenic embassies.

It was easy to see from just driving by which of the embassies had decided to take part in this manufactured Clayton's war without end.

"The Singapore embassy only put up that crash proof fence 2 years ago," explained Abdullah. We continued to drive past the Chinese embassy. The Australian government had bugged the building when it had been built and this had created a diplomatic storm when the Chinese had first discovered the eavesdropping. Next to the Chines embassy was the British embassy, it too had a brand new shiny gate where previously it had been bordered by a hedge.

We then drove past Holland's embassy and suprise suprise no fence and a glass infratsructure for an embassy.

We next stepped out of the car and directly opposite the mosque was the Malaysian embassy which also had minimal security. Behind them was the American embassy. A big white fence ringed the entire complex and Australian gum trees surrounded the entire site obscurring the view of the building from the street. In the distance one could make out a watch tower and what looked like armoured US military police nervously watching over the people going into the mosque this beautiful Friday afternoon.

Then I listened patiently to the Immam as he talked in English and gave advise similar to the type given by our own priests at our church.

The feeling of serenity was more evident as the Arabic language and the worhsipping rituals that were being conducted were very similar to the Church of the East practices. "Amen" was followed by people sitting and praying and then rising to have the Immam say "Sallam Allequom," and end the service. The ending sounded exactly like our priest in Melbourne who conducts a very similar service and ends it with "Shlama alokhun."

I can finally see why Islam was actually begun by Nestorians (i.e. Church of the East) to counter the Persian religious influence. I can see why Muhammad issued an edict that stated that the people of the Book should be protected by all Muslims.

It was an enriching experience.

We then hopped back in the car and left and as we left I couldn't help but laugh as I paid attention to Brazil's embassy. Besides having no wall or fence it's front door looked almost open begging anyone to enter and have a cuppa with the people inside.

P.S. No......I have not converted to Islam but I refuse to be Islamaphobic like the rest of these stupid white men.
