Shushan,

My post was not intended to vilify Assyrians. Rather the purpose was to demonstrate the oddity of a church such as the Church of the East which only currently (since the 1970s) chose to identify itself "Assyrian".

I did this by pointing out that the Isaiah 31 reading is (and has been for centuries) part of the Oraytah (Old Testament) lectionary. It is read on the same Sunday every year. Obviously whoever chose (so long ago) to include Isaiah 31 to be read on the "Sunday Entering The Fast of Mar Elijah" must not have considered himself an Assyrian? Or the church for that matter?

There are many other portions of the Church of the East liturgy which should cause doubt to anyone who considers the Church of the East merely an Assyrian national church.

I just have lived outside any Assyrian community and whenever I have said I was half Assyrian, I have run up against the ignorance against Assyrians from the old testament bunk about being evil and destroyed as it propheses. Would it be acceptable for any religion to do that to any people in our politically correct times? No of course not. I stick up for Jews when people talk antiJewish and Arab Muslims when people talk antithem or try to falsely portray them all as terrorists... so of course I would stick up for my own ethnicity that my grandparents were proud of being Assyrian, and of course it hurts when you treat it like you are the Bible writers milenia ago that smited their enemies and villified them as evil and wished their destruction by claiming their God proclaimed it to get back at them... the were powerful imperalists and like all imperialists they may have deserved to be smited for the suffering and murder they caused despite all the good they did, but that is by people, not by God and not for all time.. no Assyrian in over two and a half Milenia has invaded any nation, so what right do you hve to keep vilifying them becuase you are brainwashed by nonsense in a religous book saying they are evil... taht is really what this is all about... i know cause i have heard it all my life from bible thumpers using God and Jesus and perverting and corrupting them to smite a people that they are so convinced do not deserve to still exist... if you were doing this to Jews the JDL would be on your case, blacks and the NAACP would be on your case, but Assyrians, you are some leader in their church from what I gather... it makes no sense to me to use religion to destroy ethnicity... religion is our tie to God without whom nothing would exist and ethnicity is our tie to the people without whom we as unique individuals would not exist... if you destroy that then you destroy us, and maybe that is what you want. please tell me why. what is this all about. why do just assyrians of all the ethnicities taht are also christian, why do just assyrians have to deny being assyrian as you say you have and are calling on all assyrian christians to... and the only rational explaination is that you are trying to fullfill some bible delusional prophecy about Assyrians having fell never to rise or breath air again... and that is sick and as bad as the nazis... and if i am wrong and that is not what this is about... then my apologies and please feel free to explain.
