The Doc and I also took turns driving the proclean bus in northern Iraq. It must have something to do with the bacteria in the water. Assyrians born in the netherworld aren't used to our Beth Nahrain bacteria.

I remember them evacuating the Doc from Nahla high in the mountains in a 4WD after he had self diagnosied himself with typhus. I remember seeing his green face as the 4WD took him from Nahla to Akra along the most tortuous journey I have ever traveled. I could only imagine at his anguish as the 4WD was tossed from side to side as it passed 2 running streams and numerous valleys and hills along its 50 minute drive.

It was then that we determined to approach UN Habitat and request that they build a bituchemn road for the 7 villages of Nahla.

So after arranging a meeting with Hans Bruntyens the head of the UN Habitat in northern Iraq we put forward a proposal to him. It was at this meeting that I learned that the UN's definition of indigenous people was explained to us. He explained how people who had lived in an area for more than 400 years were considered indigneous according to the UN and had inalienable rights.
