> >It appears that the kidnappers are taking hostages indiscriminately, in this case. ...and, indiscriminately, all foreigners should get out of Iraq. Perhaps Iraqis working with foreign aid agencies are seen as collaborators of another kind...any New Yorker accepting Prince Bandar`s donation and working with any charity set up through that money would not be seen in a good light in New York..no matter how nice they were, how much the help was needed etc. ..something happens to people when they are beaten like that...something that disturbs what would otherwise be an ability to distinguish between things...especially things coming from what you see as your tormentors. It`s slightly obscene to accept candy from your rapist...and Iraqis can`t make those fine distinctions right now that you can. If you were badly beaten by someone wearing a Levi jacket you MIGHT find the sight of anything made of denim disturbing...especially as you await another attack by the same person wearing a denim jacket. It`s human nature..the crime here isn`t the kidnap of innocent and wonderful aid workers..it`s the murder of innocent and wonderful Iraqis. It`s one thing for a person to know why he or she is being punished and somewhat comforting when it`s done according to laws and rules with oversight and review..it`s another thing when you`ve done nothing..when your attacker is condemned as the criminal, the liar, the one who breaks all international laws as well as his own to come kill your children...and you see others joining him because they get paid to..and the whole world stands by and watches and no one says a thing or tries to defend you..when you have done NOTHING. It`s hard to keep your wits about you...to remain sane and deliberate and reasonable under those circumstances...condemning Iraqis for ANYTHING they do right now isn`t fair or just..IF Iraqis did this...but I can understand their feelings..their FEELINGS..after being driven insane by one of the most brutal business deals in history. --------------------- |
