p.s. and I agree that my just saying that we screwed up invading Iraq and all the harm that has caused Iraqis, and just saying i feel bad and hope we do right by them with a real democracy and rebuilding their infrastructure to right this wrong and clean up this mess... falls short... and it is an atrocity... but that is all that is in my power to say that and to vote and speak in a way that does not promote any further atorcities cause you may be right that just like hitler in germany used the scars from WWI to allow his atrocities, we have to make sure that fear of terrorism does not allow us to do any atrocities to anyone else... and invading Iraq was wrong and many probably most americans know that now... but to the Iraqis that lost their lives, family, friends, homes, jobs, security, country... those words and condolescences are meaningless... i am humbled and don't know what else i can say... other than i hope that a real democracy and prosperity and freedome will come to ALL Iraqis and although it won't make up to those who lost so much, maybe it will help Iraq be a great inspiration to the world... but i fnot, and it all goes to hell then yes, there is blood on peoples hands as there has been through all history on the hands of all powerful people and all people, just the more powerful the more blood they can have on their hands... not an excuse cause if I was a german excusing hitler as you pointed out that would be unacceptable, just as if Sadam did all those horrific murders, tortures, rapes and crimes he is accused of doing to his own people then it would be just as wrong to whitewash his crimes as hitlers as any country that unjustly invades another country... i think it was a mistake and that is all that is in my power to say... i am not sure what more you want of me... i feel bad enough... other than voting and educating myself and discussing with others, that is all i can do and be of good conscience or i will fall into a deep depression if i think about thousands of children that were killed by sanctions and now bombs and adults too, it bothers me... it was wrong... but a lot of people have done wrongs as was done to my relatives in turkey... two wrongs don't make a right... and one injustice can not deflect from another especially if they are not directely linked... i think you misunderstood my questions and my intentions to understand and not to condemn or ignore or excuse... if i did any of those things, it is hard to undo media brainwashing but i am trying to see everyones side so i am a person of conscience... that is all i can do... i am not a person of wealth nor power nor position, so my opinion only affects me and thsoe few around me... but i am trying to have a fair world view and vote accordingly to help improve my country and stop the things we have done that have made people hate us... for that hate is what brings down all powerful nations so understanding that hate and correcting its cause is what my country is not doing and should be... so us citizens need to understand it so we can vote for those who undersatnd it and whose policies work toward correcting them... noone will be perfect but the world moves in steps unless catastrophies like terrorism and war cause jumps... just like evolution works in small steps unless something catastrophic happens that only those that are adaptable survive... and we need to be adaptable and not the rigid world bullies but understanding apologizing reparationing nation to repair the wounds and hate against us... but in the meantime our leaders have to protect our people even soldiers in Iraq even if we never should have sent them. and that was all i was saying... and the implication that is like supporting hitler you made was a bit harsh... but i understand were it was coming from and don't hold it against you ;)
thanks for the convo.
