Hi Q,

”What are you referring to when you say that "we are the best nation in the world compared to others by far"?” Is it the public education system?

The U.S. has its ups and downs. You mentioned the public education system? We have a terrible public education system, but a terrific Jr. Colleges and Universities. What does it matter? In social countries most likely you are going to end up working for the Government or a union that is controlled by the government. In the Middle East you can graduate with a law degree. Can you use it in the Middle East? Sure work for the Bath Party or Monarchy or better yet for the Mullahs. Can you open up your law firm and be a good objective lawyer? I think not. How about a business degree or a doctor?

“Or is it the massive hours that our population works?”

We have labor laws in the world that surpasses other laws around the world. I am speaking of labor laws. You know the part time hours equal twenty hours per week and forty hours equals full time. If you exceed more than forty hours you work overtime with overtime pay. Not too many countries have that luxury. I am also including the sweat shops in the Asian countries. By the way in this country the harder/smarter you work the monetary gratification is much higher or rewarding. We are a material driven society. What is wrong with that? Does that make us evil?

“Or the taxation without real representation (or benefits)? Don't you think that being taxed 1/3 of your well-earned income that you deserve some benefits? Note that Social Security is being bankrupted and there will be hardly anything left once I'm around retirement age which they might continue to raise well over 70 before I even get there.... Offf... I don't know, I've seen better than this and I've also seen worse.”

We are the least tax society of all other industrialized countries. You have not been outside the country or have you? See how much the Europeans pay. The Middle East doesn’t pay that high, but they pay a price with that, such as lack of infrastructure i.e. clean water good roads and electricity etc. If you know all of the left wings would want to pay much higher taxes to the Government. Michael Moore and Ben Affleck went on record and said they would pay up to or at least 60% percent of their wages to taxes.

The social security system is the most exaggerated scare tactic that the Liberals use to gain the elder vote. They will come up with other types of handling the social security problem. When you run out of money…let the Government borrow some more. What you think they haven’t done it before?

“So, I don't know about this "best place on earth" scenario.”
Can I ask you a question? Why are you here or why did you come to this country. I am asking serious question. A while back my cousin brought up on how the “Iraq’s talk shit about the American troops and how ungrateful the Iraq’s are.” I was stuffing Sushi in my mouth and as soon as I could say anything I said “because they can.”

We can talk about how terrible this country is and how much bullshit this administration is etc. The beauty about it is because we can. We can dissent. This is the beauty about the freedom of speech that not too many other countries have. You and I can talk smack about anything in this land. Don’t you see that a wonderful luxery?

“I can tell you that there is a facility to life here that no other place could compare to, but that's about consumption. For example, in most of Europe (and in Australia) you have shops closing down at 6pm and on Thursdays you have late shopping til about 9pm. At first, the whole concept was a little difficult for me to adjust to--> What do you mean that I can't buy groceries at 10pm!!! ---> But I saw the advantages... Everything doesn't revolve around buying, consumption, compulsive purchasing. Window-shopping is a pastime (sp?). Instead of hopping in the car and driving to the supermarket, you plan out your meal, by the ingredients that day. You take the time (that we spend shopping in the US) to be with family and friends... It's amazing what cutting business hours does to cultivate a civil society.”

In Sweden they did a study that even though they work a total of four days a week and have full health coverage they end up getting sicker then people in the U.S.

We are more productive then any other country next to China and Japan. That is why our economy is stronger. When you work hard then you should be rewarded. That is why when I visited Greece nobody friigen worked. All of the Greeks out here worked their butts off and end up with a good living here. Then they will vacation over there because over there like I said no one worked. My brother was in France last year visiting my Aunts and Uncles. He was trippen. He said they don’t do shit over there. If you like that kind of living? tfudully… ahla- wu- sahla. No one is stopping anyone.

These were my observations. Here it's ridiculous. You buy a house, then you go buy another house that's bigger than the last house simply because you can and you're used to having a mortgage and this new house is a bigger investment if you end up selling it.”

The system encourages you to invest. It makes you more prosperous. Do you have something against prosperity? You cannot make money by sitting on it.

You mentioned something about the education system. The Government does not make money by having smart kids who are in high school. They want college educated who mature after high school. They even give them Pell Grant and loans to go to College and succeed. If you succeed they succeed by them banking on you to get a good paying job so you can pay them back by paying them taxes. It’s a beautiful thing. The system is not perfect but it’s a hell of a system.

I also noticed that when they say over night success is ten years. All my friends and families are proof in the pudding. It’s a good thing man or woman.

“You take out your carpeting and put in "Kashiye," that is "tiles", because everyone and your mother is doing it. Assyrians in Modesto, I recall in the mid to late 1990s were no longer using their garages to park their cars... The old set of furniture were put in the garage so that you can lounge with the garage door up and watch people walking their dogs...”

You lost me. What is wrong with that?

You wrote:

I remember the big talk among women was just how spotless so-and-so's garage floor was and people conjecturing as to what they could have possibly used to get the oil stains out of the cement... Miracles abound.... But I've digressed...”

Sorry…right about now I am digressing…Earth Calling Q…

I will talk to you later.
