...call me Farid...

opposes Assyrians who follow christanity, i used to oppose them too believing that christanity destroyed the Assyrian nation. However, many of my Assyrian friends are christians saying that our forefathers became christians after one of our kings who was ill was healed by christ and converted to christanity thus abandoning ashur and following christ. With this conversion the majority of the Assyrian people converted to christanity. Thats about all i know about that story still trying to get more info on it.

...this is an example of how little we think..how little we now...and how it doesn't seem to us there's any problem with that.

...If you stopped, to think, that in the story of King Abgar he is a contenporary of Jesus and is said to write a letter to Jesus saying "I heard of your teachings and your troubles..you are free to come here among us and by the way I have a disease...can you do anything for me?

...The story then says Jesus wrote back saying he couldn't come just then but on receipt of the letter Abgar would be cured, a miracle...and lo and behold he was and in response to what was OBVIOUSLY a "superior" God...he converted us all...though we weren't the diseased ones.

..there are sevral intersting things to note here...the first being that there were no Christians during Christ's lifetime and there wouldn't be for at least 100 years after his murder. This is no small detail of the story...Jesus himself says he is a Jew come not to break the law but fulfill it..that law is the Law of Moses, which has at its center the promised Messiah...the Jewish Messiah..there never was an Assyrian Messiah.

..If nothing else just this by itself shows that if the story is true, or meant to be a fable,,it has Abgar converting his people to Judaism, not Christianity. Besides some ritual differences, Christianity is essentially Judaism...Jews were nice to children , if it rained...and Christians were and so were Assyrians...what made Judaism unique was the Messiah business...and the only real difference between a Jew who stayed a Jew and a Jew who followed Jesus was that the follower of Jesus believed HE was the Messiah whereas those Jews who didn't follow Jesus felt the Messiah was yet to come..that Jesus was another false Messiah of which they produced several.

There are some other interesting things about the story. Jesus wasn't known anywhere...not even in his own country...there were no newspapers..no radio no Larry King...there was absolutely nothing remarkable at the time in any number of Jews claiming to be the Messiah..happened all the time...there was no reason and no MEANS for Jesus to be news anywhere else. The miracles were attached to Jesus AFTER he was picked up as a super star...none of it actually happened at the time or EVER.

If you believe that...believe five out of work Jew fishermen, the kind of trade whose practitioners are FAMOUS for strecthing the truth..then you're beyond help anyway and will believe just about anything...so long as it makes no sense and you can't verify it...which makes you not only fit for Christianity but a mental hopsital as well.

All joking aside there is something very sinister in the story...whether it's true or a fable. Step back a bit fom the situation and you see Assyrians who'd been following Ashur for at least 1500 years till Abgar. Under his inspiration they had created an Empire, developed half of civilization, built the most fantastic and refined cities and culture..and even had time to cure diseases. This story is basically saying that praying to Ashur, having faith in Ashur would no longer do..that if you would be healed and benefit in other ways, you must now turn to another god...to a Jew god...because remember at this time Jesus was a Jew..plain and simple..a heretical one in that he claimed to be the Messiah but a Jew in every way.

What we are taught, as children, is that Ashur failed us and we turned to a Jew god. That's bad enough in itself..but it created the fertile ground for the rest of our troubles...the major ones from which all else came...it shows us as "practical" and pragmatic with those fluid morals Paul talks about when he discusses neo-Pagans...leaking out all over the place. What Abgar basically was and what the story tells us to become are opportunists...something I claim we are suffering from to this day. Abgar saw his chance..saw the benefit and he TOOK it...which means he eventually closed the temples to Ashur that had been the center and core of the Assyrian identity, built synagogues, invited more Jews to come teach, gradually made Ashur illegal and forced us all to convert.

The message clearly is, do NOT keep faith...do NOT remain loyal through hard times...go looking for where your best advantage is etc. Imagine who on earth had MORE reason to dump a moth eathen god than the Jews..who made a treat out of the shit he fed them...and instead of THEM saying.."you know what..over in Nineveh they have a god who gives his people LOTS of good stuff where it's clean and there are LESS diseases so I'm switching to Ashur"...they have US saying the hell with Ashur..let's go where the god really knows how to love his people..let's convert to Judaism..it will get us killed fatser so we can go to a Jew paradise too.

If once you accept the notion that it's okay to betray your religion for some benefits from another one...you don't have to go much farther to betray your family, your friends, your country...and most of all your SELF..because back then more than at any other time since, your religion WAS you...it was everything about you.

It was no small thing back then to leave one god for another...it's nothing today...back then it said something unpleasant about you...and look at us since then.

>Anyway, to me i believe it is not christanity that is destroying our Assyrian nation but the church who acts as if it owns jesus and the only way for christians to get to him (which seems to be what they live for) is through the church and submitting all they own and giving up everything they have or had on this world. I dont think the real christanity is like that however it is just a way of life, teachings of a good man for people to follow, a bit like that chinese dude confucious (i think that was his name).

..it is far more dangerous than just some good teachings. Those good teachings are shared by everyone..they were certainly alive and well in Assyria and places the world over, then and now, who never heard of Jesus the Jew and never needed to or wanted to.

..being kind to children is NOT unique to Christianity, neither is that its core message..the core message of Christianity, the thing you MUST accept and practice and condone, is the idea that a beautilu and innocent person who NEVER did you any harm, must have your sins loaded oon his back and be murdered...just as those nuts used to do to a baby goat once a year.

..If anywhere on earth or in a real heaven, you agree to benefit from the murder of another Life..you as guilty as the person who did the killing...it doesn't matter if the man was a saint or insane..if he WANTED to be killed or resisted...Jesus is said to have promised eternal life to those who would "accept" this..and the church makes you not only accpet, or you can't get into heaven no matter HOW nice you are...but on top of that you have to eat the scrificed victim and drink his blood...this is clearly barbaric and so clearly NOT a part of what Assyrians ever were...it is also a way to start children out in life looking for and accepting the benefits that come from killing OTHER inncoent people..like maybe the cheaper gas we'll get as our reward for having participated in the murder of inncoent Iraqis...children included.

>Just checking to see if anyone can verify that story about that sick king that converted which caused our conversion, i think that was the start of christanity to the assyrian people.

..he was sick indeed...so is the story...nothing insults us more as Assyrians except perhaps the one about us hiding in fear in Hanna's village also waiting to be rescued by a Jew...while the Jews stayed and under yahwe fought against the greatest empire of its day...while WE ran!

clearly you MUST remain ignorant and afraid of your mind and the minds of any who would use them to explore these myths and fables the church scares children with.
