You know, after visiting with my dad's family, recently, and being familiar with the various "Assyrian" forums online, I've realized just how jealous a lot of the people in that online community are, esp. in the States. There was a stark contrast between the people I interacted with online in that community and the people I know in my dad's family, who avoid that community and are incredibly warm and wonderful people. The jealousy infects everything and everyone in the most subtle ways in that online community - everyone's out to make themselves "king" or "queen" and defeat each other in virtual arguments in the most brutal manner. It's a manifestation of what I find to be one of the worst aspects of the society here in the States - a cruel, blind, and self-righteous Social Darwinism that incorporates and extols Machiavellian principles in it's absurd logic - manipulation, greed, and superficiality. It's unhealthy, too, for those of us who aren't like that, because, like it or not, it seeps into one's subconscious.... I don't really like being online for that reason....
