I am going to be brief and rely on memory. It has been awhile. This was that you posted was an escape route of some sort. It was developed to strike preemptively if Cuba was going to be hostile.

I want to jump all the way to the last days and hours of the Cuban missile crises. Nikita Khrushchev was not heading warning from the U.S into stopping shipments of the missiles. He insisted that they were not a hostile move.

JFK was put on a bad spot. His advisors insisted that Cuba would launch a missile so we had to do it first. The military base that was overseeing the problem was located in Florida.

To make a long story short, we had our fingers on the trigger. This was a game of chicken. Who would surrender first?

The Soviets did not want a confrontation, but they were adamant that they will not back off. JFK was certain that they were hostile. Again, to make a long story short…a U.S. military plane flying over Alaska and the Soviet over international water was signaling to Florida that they have a Soviet fighter flying behind them.

They were certain they were going to be shot down. This was the fear that JFK had when he presumed that it was inevitable to hit first so we can have the upper hand. In actuality it was to Nuke them first before it was too late and we can’t get the upper hand first.

What good would that do right? Anyway JFK’s peeps insisted they send out fighters to shoot down the Soviet plane. They said as soon as the fighter hits our plane that is the sign to launch the nuclear warheads toward Cuba and the Soviets. See you don’t know this.

That night JFK had the power to strike if they shot down the U.S plane over Alaska. The soviet fighter come to find out was not a fighter at all. The U.S confirmed and it to JFK and the Soviet premiere heard of this and ordered the missiles to be sent back to the Soviet from Cuba.

This was the extent of the Cuban missile crises. A very close call. Interesting right?
