Hi Jeff,

Whenever I used to transcribe Assyrian songs, I used to do the same like you have done here. However I would hear the song I would write it, and then try to memorize it. So I can't do a better job transcribing the song. Well done. :)

When I was about 13 I was in love with a singer named Amanuel Bet YOnan. He has this one Omtanaya song that I used to sing all the time. It starts like..... Ya awated shmaya ramaa qamudeetooo kilyee tama etc etc...khoshon klemooon something matwatan ptukhon kuleeee qorawatan aqemounon brot khayutan, lewakh khedye be something lewakh khedye braributa...etc

My dad used to laugh at me when hearing me sing that song. I loved the song, but I messed up all the words! Hey, at least I try...

By the way, it's through music that I learned to speak Assyrian, and also learned all three dialects, as can anyone who wants to learn. Although I still unfortunately do not speak any one dialect perfectly, I can sing in Alqoshi, Suryoyo, and Assyrian.

So here is my translation.

Ah hay la yao-nee
This is my dove
yao-neeta khlee-ta
beautifull dove
Ah hay la yao-nee khay-yee
This is my dove, my life
qa-too min meeta
For which I will die
x2

(I'm totally guessing on the spelling here... I've got my headphones on and I'm going to try and transcribe it phonetically!)

Khizya lichnee te-va
He saw....this part I don't know
Alaynit meeya
On the top of the water? Eye of the Water??
Qorbinney Ana kisla
I tried to get closer to her
Raban maseyyah
Because I was thirsty???

Mo-tee-lee oshimmakh
What is your name
Ya atoureyah
Assyrian lady? Oh assyrian?
Moot-chip-la reesho merra
She turned her head and said
Ah ninnyoneeyah

Yao-nee atintaneelee
My dove tell me
Moodeewat atee
What are you?.
Makh shimsha bizrakeva
Like the sun you are shining
chod youm youl patee
Everyday on my face.

x2

Khagzeyto ga shepta
How she looks at me???
Goo den aynatee
With those eyes?
Moodelakh chim jeldoota
How fast you showed me???

Your love for me??
