The Assyrians were a matriarchal society and loved women. They thought of women as creators and goddesses. In the Epic of Gilgamesh it is Ishtar’s priestess, Shamhat, a woman, who civilizes man.

In some of the Assyrian Prophey tablets, Ishtar is the female manifest of Alaha Ashur. In fact, in some of the oracles, it is difficult to know where Alaha Ashur ends and Ishtar begins. In one of the Oracles, Alaha Ashur wants to release man on his own to create his own world. The scene is the last supper, where the council of gods are gathered at the feast and Ishtar speaks oracularly through Ashur to give them instructions on how to release man. This means the ancient Assyrians knew God had to be of both male and female attributes and energy to be complete.

The demonizing of women started with the Hebrew traditions of demonizing Lillith, Adam’s first wife. In the Assyrian version of creation, Adam’s first wife, Lillith rejects her husband, Adama. Adama in Assyrian means mud. But the Hebrews call the first man Adam. In the Assyrian tradition, Lillith divorces Adam because he rapes her against her will every night. He thinks of her as a sexual object, not as a person in her own right. When Lillith leaves Adam, she goes on her own into the wilderness. She lives as a free-spirit.

The Hebrews demonize Lillith and make her into a monster. They don’t like her free spirit who rejects man’s suppression of females. She is depicted by the Hebrews as a monster living in a tree, mocking society. That’s why they find it necessary to create Eve, who is created from Adam’s rib, to keep her subjugated to the man. They also depict Eve as a weakling who was fooled by Satan and forced Adam to fall from the grace of God.

As the Assyrians adopt the Judeo-Christian philosophy, you begin to see the Assyrians also demonizing Lillith and calling her a “SHIDDA”, A WILD BEAST.

What else is new?

The Assyrians always trade their traditions and their religion for the Judeo-Christian roots. That’s why even today Assyrians view gays as “evil” or “deviants”. The real Assyrians knew homosexuality was as old as man. Gilgamesh himself must have been bi-sexual to have fallen in love with Enkidu so deeply.

But let’s not talk about it, lest we are condemned by Assyrians, right?

Today, feminists from all over the world gather in San Francisco to celebrate the Lillith Festival, in honor of women’s liberation from the oppressive and humiliating roles society sets for them

I did a show on Lillith, on AssyriaSat, called “ALL ABOUT LILLITH”.

Get it?

Instead of ALL ABOUT EVE.
