It´s commendable, I suppose, to say things like, “you´re entitled to your beliefs”. But what if your beliefs include chopping me up into little pieces…or what if your religion tells you it´s perfectly okay to teach children the delights of cannibalism, or hang little golden guns or knives around their throats and have them kiss these murderous weapons before going to sleep...can people teach any beliefs to their children? Has the community no stake in what kinds of little monsters come out of homes and grow into big monsters?

Right now we’ve got a bunch of people in control of the most frightful weapons on earth, who’ve already shown an alarming willingness to aim them at anybody at all…even innocent children. Is it a coincidence that more and more of these people profess the Christian faith...rather loudly too?

How would we feel if a race of confirmed cannibals took over our planet…would we still say:”you are entitled to your beliefs”? Shouldn´t people only be entitled to those beliefs which pose no danger to others? And I don’t mean by “danger” the kinds of things that alarm a Christian...things like "too much" nudity in films never meant for them anywa, not unless someone can prove any harm comes directly from such things that rile these Christians so…I mean real danger…as in something that could kill you…or poison the water we drink or the air we breathe…I don’t mean the danger to the “sanctity of marriage” if Queers are finally allowed their full freedoms under the law…I mean people aiming guns at those of another religion…or hunting you down with the express desire, not to show you a naked picture…not even to prosletize you…as long as you can walk away safely...but to do you real harm...like using physical violence against you, or threatening to.

The person who was called a "cultural humanist" by Christians on the warpath…who actually coined this term themselves so they could then call it a “religion too”...was nothing more dangerous than someone who wanted to live and let live…someone who wanted to pursue his or her personal intellectual or emotional wanderings where they would lead…and was more than willing to allow others to do the same. This type of person does not want to “change” people…not in any forceful way…not the way Christians EVANGELIZE themselves up your arse.

Yet the Christian…worried lest he lose control of his fair haired children who might be tempted to Reason and Discovery…invented this term and fashioned it after his own bent that is: as a force that was determined to CHANGE people into something, even against their will. This helped them feel persecuted and nothing makes a Christian cozy up and purr like being persecuted…so much so that when no one for miles around is even thinking of persecuting him, he will spy some article in a magazine and shout that THAT is persecuting him!

What’s really scary and bound to cause us all much grief in the near future is that bastard politicians have latched onto this Christian thing as a way to get themselves elected as the champions of Christian Values...and they’ve blithely agreed to pander to religious fundamentalism in their appointments to public offices that require something more than a stout knowledge of scripture and a belief in a ditzy hereafter. Some things go hand in hand…if you believe you´re going to live on a cloud after you die, you probably shouldn’t be made president of a college...not unless the entire faculty and student body plans on living there too. But that’s just what has happened...where is the purpose of Oral Roberts preaching to his own choir? He would be far more effective if made president of Harvard. For one thing, all those disreputable long-hairs, egg-heads and Liberals would leave…so would all the bratty kids who don’t want to live forever. A simple appointment like that would reap all sorts of rewards…for a Christian fundamentalist...which is what our idiot president proudly claims to be.

There is something unwholesome in an adult, especially when he or she is in the public domain, believing that they will live on a cloud when they die…especially when there is no reason to believe such a thing…except that they BELIEVE it. You don’t want your doctor operating on that principle when not in his church…when he says he believes you need to have your neck tied off…you want a REASON to believe it.

What we have now is the equivalent of that doctor telling us we need an operation, or some policy, because he BELIEVES we do…even though no test shows the need for one…and further, that he has only his GREAT FAITH to go on when he says he’ll get you through it…somehow.

I don´t care what kind of heaven or hell my neighbor imagines for himself…I DO care if he designs my childrens’ school curricula based on nothing more substantial than what he believes will be the best way to get them into HIS heaven. Let him keep his scripture to himself…but that’s just the point..they don’t WANT to keep it to themselves any longer…they want to force it on YOU…and their justification for that is that you are forcing YOUR religion on THEM…all that remained for them to do was give the name of “religion” to those beliefs you have which you never dreamed of or thought of or acted towards as any kind of religion.

A religion is a set of beliefs about moral conduct that will GET YOU into a heaven…it’s ultimately about an afterlife…that’s the great “hook”..it’s what’s calculated to draw in the crowds (we’ll discuss its dismal failure to do so later). I don’t have a single belief or thought about an afterlife..in fact, I think the idea is preposterous…just too damn silly and not thought out at all. No one knows what is supposedly in it…or where it is exactly…or what goes on there…but they BELIEVE it because they WANT to. So let them. I don`t...so leave me alone and STOP basing appointments to public policy positions or putting dangerous weapons of proven mass destruction, of which Christians have bothered to produce the most, into the hands of such people. It makes the rest of us nervous.

Also, a religion these days has an entire structure..it has offices and rank and places of worship and most important of all, tax-exempt status and a basketball team…I have none of these things. I have no god any Christian would recognize…no belief in an afterlife…no adherence to any sort of organized institution that professes these things…so how the hell are my ideas a “religion”? Clearly they’re not…they’re just MY ideas…and if they scare Christians…or tempt their children to stand upright and think for themselves, well, then…that’s a failure of THEIR religion…not any sign that I must have a competing one…or, Lord bless them…am in league with the DEVIL!
