I'm posting this article about the last convention for an Assyrian man that I luv and respect. Remember folks.........we are one nation...! Abbey... Embrace a dream, and through it, help your Nation. The Convention, which was held on the 2nd to the 6th of September, in San Jose California, this year, was an opportunity for me to meet and converse with Assyrians from all over the world. I met individuals who have similar goals as I, who exhibit a great deal of dedication towards their Nation, and who are serious about our future. We went to lectures, art exhibits, and parties, and we gave our opinions regarding our Nation. The last day, some of us sat in a circle of about sixteen, at the picnic. We sang in Western and Eastern dialects, not concentrating on any minor insignificant differences between us. We didn’t focus on what church we are from, because it doesn’t matter. We didn’t discriminate against each other, whether we are Assyrians from Tur Abdin, from Urmia, or from Alqosh, it didn’t make a big difference. We are all obviously people of one Nation. Many times at the Convention, my mind wandered back thousands of years, as I watched the Assyrians of today. At times I saw before me walking, talking, ancient Assyrians. These individuals reminded me of our great ancestors. Thoughtful people just like the ancients, who were etched on clay tablets their thoughts, their dreams, their beliefs, and their experiences in order for us, their descendants to learn from them. I have always considered the ancient Assyrians a special part of my family, since I grew up reading their stories, and at the convention I met more of them, people who I now consider a new family of friends. I finally met Assyrians who dislike stumbling blocks as I do, since at times it seems some people of our Nation love walking in circles. We agreed that circles should be avoided at all cost! I met people who live and breath to create the most effective strategies, which will enable the Assyrian Nations progression in the global community. I met people who want to take part in finding ways to achieve unity, people who want to be part of the solutions, rather then part of the ailment, people who want to be the cure for the disease. I met people who feel so much passion towards their Nation, and our people’s human rights, as I do. I met people educated in their history, Assyriologists who are aware of numerous amounts of events, which have occurred on the Earth from the beginning of our civilization until today. I met creative people with amazing pieces of Art, thought provoking paintings, exhibiting talent, showcasing our culture through the Eyes of a new Assyrian generation. I met people who know how to reflect the past into the future, through their works and accomplishments for their Nation. These individuals, who realize, that our greatness lays not only in our past but also in our future. Believers in unity, people aware that we can accomplish anything when we work together, when we put our differences aside and concentrate on our similarities. There were others, people who are not afraid to stand up for our human rights, and are politically active, who lobby for the Assyrian Nation in the United States. I also met other People who know how to be Assyrian and also how to be Christian. People who believe in the promised highway prophesized in the Bible, but also work for it by building little bridges between one another, from one home to another home, and from one person to another person. And others who try not to take sides when there is a situation, which presents difficulty, uncertainty, and perplexity within our Nation, rather people who are the ingredients for the solution. People courageous in times of great adversity, people ready to return to our homeland if it is to the benefit of our Nation. Ask yourself, are you ready? People who are less concerned with their self, and more concerned with their Nation and most importantly the welfare of our people left in Iraq, some of which have in the last few months fled our homeland, fearing for their lives, as five of our Churches were bombed and others who have been viscously murdered, beheaded. I met Assyrians who are proud of whom they are, but who put pride and ego away when it is the problem and not the solution. I met Assyrians, willing to work for their Nation, and also willing to put in the time and resources into projects, which progress the Assyrian Nation. I met so many amazing people who inspired me to achieve everything I want to achieve for my Nation. These future achievements are my dreams. I consider all of my dreams, long-term goals, which I can reach by creating short-term goals, which will eventually lead to the accomplishment of my long-term goals. I wish if each one of you reading my words, at this moment also have dreams, which include helping the Assyrian Nation. And if not, I wish if my words could inspire you a little. Your Nation needs you, and needs for you to have at least one dream, which includes the Assyrian Nation. There was also an undeniable spiritual presence that I could feel at the convention. --------------------- |
