...and he found there was an epidemic of child molestation in his church he'd be the kind to look the other way...he'd certanly ban anyone from the Vatican who tried to confront the issue.

His approach would be that to air this dirty laundry would hurt the image of the church and sadden the faithful...also maybe hurt future donations and bequests...the end result would be that children would go on getting fucked, on his watch, but at least things would look positive, Someone like this doesn't much give a shit what happens down the line...what the spread of that kind of rot, given shelter and tacit approval by those who should be most concerned, would do in the future to the whole institution...Pope Firas' attitude is, "so long as my name is involved, let's put on the best possible show that we can."

His interests don't really lie with the church...or Assyria...but with himself and how he is viewed in the peanut gallery.
