Rev. Ken, I was just reading your article a nation of infidels? and I must say that I thought whatever we're discussing as Assyrians would remain between us as Assyrians. I don't agree at all that the Assyrians are infidels but I would say that there are many now who are fed up with turning the other cheek and they want those promises that they have been hearing from times unknown to finally come true. I also don't agree on the generalization of cramming all Assyrians as supporters of Hezballah or any other party of the sort, there are personal opinions in every subject, as many may argue also that what the western countries are suffering from is the doing of their policy makers and policians, matters are really complicated once we start to disect them from beginnings to roots. Then I came upon the following segment in your article:"As any Assyrian knows the historic promise to Assyrians that one day their will be an Assyrian Nation comes from Isaiah 19:23-25 which states: `In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria . . .in that day Israel will be the third, along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing on earthy . . . Assyria my handiwork . . .` No matter how one reads it, it is clear that Israel and Egpyt are the friends of Assyria and part of our alliance". Why are those "friends" supporting the rise of an anti-Assyrian entity on Assyrian lands??? As for the U.S. you're asking:"Then, finally, how can an Assyrian be anti-American? The country that not only has taken us in, loved us, given us freedom and gone to war to liberate our people, albeit many problems in Iraq". With all due respect I don't think that in your writings you should generalize because there are as many Assyrians that supported and opposed the war on Iraq as did Americans or any other peoples in this world and this for sure doesn't make any of them an anti-American. As Assyrians many of us are seeing that the American policy in Iraq didn't bring any thing new to the Assyrians they are still being killed and continuously threatened not only across Iraq but specially in the heartland of Assyria the North of Iraq.Have you read about the latest casualties??? Why not say that the U.S. is using an anti-Assyrian policy??? Regards Mary --------------------- |
