...The judge was furious at prosecutors, the government lawyers specifically, for disobeying her direct orders by coaching witnesses in the death penalty phase of the tiral...you can see how this will play out...neo-cons will seize on this as an example of "liberal judges gone wild"...like what every judge wants to do is SUBVERT justice...the good Christians who hallelujah all day long for the cameras will say that the legal system and the silly old Bill of Rights are getting in the way of justice and security...and people will buy it because they'll think, "what IF he really should be killed and we DON"T do it"? These be dangerous waters..the judge, in insisting that the government obey our laws and respect due process, is in reality protecting us from what history has shown to be the worst form of abuse and terror..when your OWN government sets its sights on YOU...cause, where you gonna run? If we begin to neglect due process in a mistaken notion that we'll streamline the silly old laws we live by...we'll end up doing far more damage to ourselves than any terrorists ever did..and in truth, it's because we DID ignore all common decency as well as international laws, plus bluring our own, that we got into this mess in the first place...we can already see what skirting the laws can cost us...more of the same will bring US more of the same. --------------------- |
