...when the Arab armies reached BetNahrain they found a land littered with resligious disputes...Christian warring against Christian over trivialities too obscure to explain rationally. The Muslims could have cared less but they imposed a peace...a truce. Each sect could believe Christ was three or two...they could follow whichever calendar they wanted...they could cross themselves with as many fingers and toes as they felt the need to...all of them were allowed to carry on but they were stopped from fighting about it...each bishop had his retainers and there had been open warfare in the streets and between villages. The Muslims put a stop to it. ...it`s surprising how little has changed. No sooner do you give these Christians some measure of freedom then they`re at it again. They`ve come to the West and are thrilled that there is Freedom here...but to them it means the freedom to continue this centuries old battle over which of them REALLY understood a Jew carpenter...and they`re fighting about it all over again. As bad as things might have been for them under Saddam..and as bad as some of them think things will be for them under Barzani, they would be infintely worse under one of their own. The West will NEVER give anything to this motley band of religious disputants who are using being "Assyrian" as a political or national cloak behind which to hide their religious squabbles...our boys are so sure they are cleverly disguised behind national "agendas", petitions and democracy, they think no one sees through them. This has all been merely a continuation of the same petty religious disputes the Arabs put a stop to 1400 years ago. Would it really have been such a loss if the Byzantines had ruled BetNahrain, with their bloody brand of Christianity, thereby burning all these sons of bitches at the stake for heretics? Just one hundred years under Byzantine rule and THEN the Arabs could have driven them out...after they cleared the land of these abominable Christians. Damn them Arabs...itīs because of their Conquest that these sects surrived at all! --------------------- |
