Let's not fool ourselves- "WE" have done nothing but live OUR lives as best as we can while "THEY- CHURCH & POLITICIANS- HAVE BEEN DOING THIS SINCE THE BEGINNING." My family was merely working, birthing, cooking, farming, struggling as much as any family in any part of the blessed world while the Carter administration helped overthrow the Shah because "HE was tyrannical"; and replaced him with someone more forward-thinking, forgiving, enlightened? WE did not do this. WE did not want to grow up standing in tortuous lines for meat and milk. WE did not want to be and feel severed from the rest of the world. WE did not want to cover ourselves in CHADORS. WE did not want to play with our toys in the dark, with only a candle lighting the entire house, while bombs landed in the near distance shaking the house, rumbling and reverberating through our bones and spirit. WE did not want to tramp on an American flag as we entered our school yard, after all, WE had grandparents in Amerkah, people we loved. WE did not choose or expect that our entire world as we knew it would be turned upside down, EVERYTHING changing in a matter of months for the WORSE. WE did not choose the Iran/Iraq war... Etc. Etc.
