...what an absurd notion and how like helpless people to come up with such a thing. The first converts to Christ were Jews who were no different than the other Jews except that they believed Jesus was the promised Messiah...otherwise there was nothing new in Jesus.

But the Messiah, Jesus, proved to be a big flop. In the first place he was a god, so he didn`t suffer anything..it was all a carnival sideshow meant, I guess, to impress people among the most gullible and hapless of the ancient world. If he was the promised Messiah then what did he go AWAY for? Why did he pretend to suffer and die...bounce up the next morning, stretch his arms and fly to heaven...leaving the rest of the poor shmucks who fell for it to catch hell FOR him?

Wasn`t the world sick enough? Didn`t the good folk already deserve a break? Why come and then GO....without relieving anything in their lives but making them substantially WORSE?

Christians from the very beginning went mad regularly whenever someone decided TODAY or this year was when the Messiah would come BACK. It became a serious problem, this concentrating on another life and treating this one like it wasn`t worth squat...periodically whole congregations and communities would abandon their shops, give away their worldly possessions and go camp in the dessert, waiting...this happened so frequently and caused such economic disruption that pagan governors complained that Christians were useless as citizens...they would not build roads, they would not defend the borders, they would not generate wealth or jobs but instead live at a bare minimum, as if they were STILL in Jerusalem, and wait and pray all day to die, without having done much of anything, to go somewhere ELSE where doing nothing was considered paradise.

This went on till 1000 AD when the church decided they better stop preaching the imminent return of Jesus as it was a great dissapointment and made people think too much...and then, you see, people who died were anxious not to moulder in the ground waiting in the damp for Jesus to blow his horn and raise them up...hell Lazarus didn`t have to go through much, why should they? So the church made up new rules, again, that said you went UP THERE, because now Heaven was to be on a cloud, immediately on dying...no waiting till Judgement Day with a mouthful of dirt...

That`s not the way it was supposed to be with the Messiah..he was coming back to make a kingdom ON EARTH...he was going to smite the bad people..which simply meant all those who cried, laughing, at the Hebrews...and finally give the shmucks who couldn`t build a toilet, a toilet belonging to OTHER people..."bad" people..like the Assyrians who had more in Nineveh than a Christian could imagine having in heaven.

We even have recent experience with people who get so whacked waiting on the Messiah to come back...that they`ve taken themselves TO him...Jonestown is one example and then the Heaven`s Gate people..where believers killed THEMSELVES so anxious were they to force the issue. Sure...you can call them nuts NOW...but people drove themselves crazy with this "he is coming BACK" bullshit taught by the Church.

How`d you like to need a plumber real bad..I mean REAL bad...and have one show up at your door with credentials identifying him as the BEST plumber ever...with him telling you what miracles he worked for your neighbors..how he raised one man`s head out of his own toilet and changed several questionable lumps of something or other floating there into wine..and just when you`re all hot and wet to think your toilet will FINALLY work and the stinking mess accumulating in your bathroom and the hall and the basement will be turned into Merlot...the plumber FLIES AWAY...telling you "I`ll be back"! Say WHAT??? That`s a GOOD plumber???!!!

The whole point with the Messiah is that he`s NOT SUPPOSED to come back! You`re supposed to "look for him" eternally...but he can`t really come back cause this whole thing is a whangdoodle dreamed up by people who had no hope in hell of lifting themselves out of ANYTHING..and most Jews knew it and that`s why most Jews, to this day, have NEVER accepted any Messiah...because they`re not THAT stupid!!! Only Christians are.
