What sort of short-sighted and simple calculation led anyone to think that it is worth at this moment in Iraq's history to make ANY proposals of this transient Iraqi government in the name of Assyrians? I am absolutely appalled at such downright stupidity. Yet again, a small minority of out-spoken know-nothings of Middle East history, much less Iraqi history are making boisterous claims without consideration for ALL possible outcomes. What will any of these Assyrians do if they are granted a province by the existing government and in due time (as is very likely in these sorts of transitional phases) this government collapses. The American people have already shown a distaste for their government's engagement in Iraq. Why make the remaining Assyrians the target as conspirators of an illegitimate government (which is what the existing Iraqi government will be considered)? What then? Do the people that support this idea not read the papers? Do they not believe the news coming from Iraq (sans Ken Joseph's hallucinations)? My suggestion: Dear lovely arm-chair nationalists, go spend every penny you've got and buy every inch of land you can find within existing Christian enclaves and their fringe in Iraq. We can figure out what to do with the land later. Let the Christian presence in Iraq be a fait accompli. This is the time for the Diaspora to put its efforts where its big mouth is. And what a mouth it is. --------------------- |
