I left Baghdad when I was two weeks old. Left Kalamata Greece on my second b-day, spent a day in New York before settling my deeza in chee-CAgoo. Oh, I also brought my family with me. Ahhh, chi town in the eighties was great. I lived in a building called Campa’d Tyarayeh. Across the street was Campa’d Gilwayeh. The only thing the two Camps had in common was the fact that their sons were all Assyrian Eagles. My first introduction to the “Assyrian Business man” in amrika. The neighborhood was wonderful. Our front sidewalk was covered with forty ounce beer bottles. Our back alley had an exquisite collection of used condoms and graffiti that would astound even the crackers in town. All two of them. We had a black kid in the neighborhood that learned to speak perfect Assyrian. The only downside was that he spoke with a thick, mixed Tyari and Giloo accent. He loved Dolma and Dikwa. He wore a feature in his cap and refused to sit in a chair preferring to sit “Al Era”. So many stories to share. In fact too many to share. You’ll just have to wait for the movie. --------------------- |
